Improving Productivity
Work smarter, not harder — with the numbers to prove it.
A structured look at how your business turns effort into output, and where the easiest gains are hiding. We use Work Study — a well-established, evidence-based approach — to find the changes that save real time, without asking your team to work any harder.
What productivity actually means
Productivity is the efficiency with which your business turns input into output — measured across all factors of production combined, or, most commonly, as labour productivity: the value added divided by the amount of labour used to generate it (source: the International Labour Organisation).
Labour productivity rises when value added increases through better use and coordination of everything that goes into producing your goods or services. That can come from people working smarter, faster, or with better skills — but just as often it comes from better machinery, less wasted material, or a change in how the work is organised.
Work Study — old name, still the sharpest tool
Work Study, sometimes still called Time and Motion, has an old-fashioned reputation. In practice, the techniques are as relevant today as they were decades ago: analysing how work actually happens, and finding simpler, quicker ways to do it. Savings in time don't mean working harder — they mean working smarter.
Timing a job with a stopwatch is rarely the whole answer any more. As more processes become automated, the real question shifts to making sure automation stays fed with work, and that everything around it — the people and steps either side — is balanced to match, rather than becoming the new bottleneck.
